Fall officially began on September 23, 2011, but most people recognize autumn not by the calendar, but by the start of school, cooler weather, shortened days and changing leaves. This season, fall in love with fall by enjoying all the great activities autumn has to offer:
Fall Food: Restaurants debut their fall menus with fanfare because people flock to their hearty and creamy ingredients. In addition, chefs can do some amazing and creative things with pumpkins, apples and berries, besides just pies.
TV: All the networks debut their new primetime shows, so cuddle up on the couch to watch which shows make America tune in or turn off. This year’s favorites are NBC’s The Playboy Club and Whitney, and ABC’s Suburgatory and Revenge.
Fall Fashion: Boots, bags, sweaters, jackets, hats and scarves come out of storage. Fashion Week is in September for a reason!
Football: Whether you are a diehard football fan or just in it for the tailgating, football season brings fans out by the thousands. So get out the jersey of your favorite team and take in a game.
Pumpkins: Pumpkins make fall special and are actually very versatile, from food (pie, bread, muffins), decorations (centerpieces, jack-o-lanterns) to attractions (pumpkin patches).
Cider: Fresh-pressed apple cider for the kids, and a grown-up version for the adults, makes any fall get-together festive.
The Weather: The sweltering summer heat is over and the winter is months away, so take time to enjoy the temperate and crisp weather by getting outside as much as possible!
Beer: For beer aficionados, fall brings about limited editions of dark and heavy brews. Find a local pub with craft beers available and sip a sampling of fall ales.
Soup, Soup and More Soup: Whether its butternut squash, a hearty bowl of chili or simple tomato basil, there is nothing more delicious than soup on a chilly, autumn day.
Pumpkin Spice Lattes: They’re back, and people go absolutely nuts for them. Take a walk to your neighborhood Starbucks (there is usually one every couple of miles) and try one of this tasty treat.
Foliage: The leaves change from green to orange, red, yellow and brown. Nature provides the perfect autumn color palate. Organize a day trip into the country to take in the season at its finest, but timing is everything so plan accordingly.
