As the regional property manager of nine communities in North Carolina and Georgia, Lisa Baker is responsible for overseeing all regional operations, including Madison team members and resident concerns. She joined Madison in January 2011 after working as a regional property manager at a large Atlanta-based real estate company.
Lisa believes the difference between Madison and other companies is the way Madison supports its staff. Madison managers, community directors and other staff are treated with the utmost respect and loyalty, which fosters a positive and supportive work environment. Another differentiator is the level of training and support Madison offers its employees. In addition to company sponsored training, Madison encourages its staff members to take advantage of local resources to build their skill sets. Lisa enjoys the camaraderie of working with the other members of her regional team, and frequently arranges for additional training to ensure her staff is up to date on the latest management methods.
One of the most challenging, and rewarding, aspects of Lisa’s position is finding the right staff members to help her support more than 3,000 residents across nine properties. “Our primary goal at Madison is to keep our residents happy, so selecting the right person for the right position is crucial,” says Lisa. “I am confident that we have the best team available in terms of experience, resident interaction and overall responsiveness.”
According to Lisa, communication across all levels of the organization is the key to running a successful community. She was thrilled to join Madison because open communication is ingrained in the company culture. Lisa is in constant contact with her regional counterparts, Madison Corporate and her teams to ensure things are running smoothly.
Lisa does have two pieces of advice for residents. She encourages residents to become more active in community social events to get to know their neighbors and community staff. Lisa’s communities host events throughout the year, and are always looking for new ways to engage residents and community members. The other piece of advice is simply practical: Lisa encourages residents to take advantage of Madison’s online rent payment system, which can be a huge time saver. The online system is easy to use, and can be set up in a matter of minutes using a debit or credit card. While traditional mail and in-person payment is always welcome, Lisa wants residents to be aware of all their options and choose the method of payment that is most convenient for them.
When she’s not managing her team, Lisa enjoys traveling with her husband. While she loves visiting the nearby Georgia Mountains, she travels abroad each year to locations that include the Caribbean, Italy, France, German and more. She will soon be visiting Russia, Estonia, Finland and Sweden. At home, she enjoys spending time with her two Chihuahuas, Brutus and Cesar.
